Allegations against staff, volunteers or students should be raised with the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
Early Years Providers must ensure that all practitioners, and any other person likely to have regular contact with children are suitable to do so (including those living or working on the premises).
Most adults who work with children act professionally and provide a safe and secure environment for the children. Sadly there are some adults who deliberately seek out, create or exploit opportunities to abuse children. It is essential that a clear process exists for the investigation and resolution of allegations made against staff and volunteers. The process is managed by Islington’s LADO who is responsible for:
- Managing individual cases
- Providing advice and guidance
- Liaising with police and other agencies
- Monitoring progress of cases for timeliness, thoroughness and fairness
All statutory partner agencies are required to report all allegations to the LADO within one working day using the referral form. The referral form can be downloaded from the Key practice guidance on the ISCB website.
