Case studies from three early years settings in Islington, describing the process by which practitioners came to understand the importance of superhero and weapon play to many children, especially boys. It explains how these interests were used as a starting point to foster imaginative development and emotional well-being and develop storytelling and writing. This leaflet is free.

The guidance is for all practitioners working with 3-5 year olds. It goes through the stages of teaching handwriting and letter formation, from developing fine and gross motor skills and mark making through to ways of teaching the correct formation of individual letters. It was written with a group of reception teachers from Islington primary schools.

A New leaflet for practitioners on how to support good attendance and punctuality in Foundation Stage. Islington has worryingly low figures for children’s attendance and punctuality at school and in response to these concerns, the Early Years Strategy Board requested that guidelines be drawn up to support practitioners and settings in working with children and families to develop good habits of attendance and punctuality in the early years phase. This leaflet is for early years staff and contains examples and ideas of ways to work with parents on this important issue. Please note this is not a leaflet for parents.
