The Early Years and Childcare team offer a 'pathway' to becoming a registered childminder with Ofsted. The free support provided is a mixture of essential information, training, and ongoing advice. Find further details in the Pathway to becoming a registered childminder leaflet in attachments. 


Information Sessions

Come to a short information session and find out how to get started. The Family Information Service runs sessions every month. Meet the Childminding and Childcare Information Officer who will explain what is involved in becoming a childminder. You can ask questions and find out about support available to you.

Pre-registration Briefings

Attend the 3 hour pre-registration briefing to receive essential information about the Ofsted registration process, Islington training and support for prospective childminders. This is a free session held at Laycock Centre every term, the next briefing is on

Islington Childminding Training

Islington childminding training is a free 3 day introductory training course available 3 times per year. The course supports prospective childminders in understanding the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The course includes a mixture of teaching sessions, group discussions, reflection and some 'in between' session tasks.

The course is free and the next course dates are:

  • Thursday 26 June 2020
  • Thursday 09 July 2020 and 
  • Friday 07 July 2020.

All sessions start at 9.30am and end at 3pm.

iWork Funding

If you have been out of work for six months or more, Islington's iWork coaches can help you develop the skills and confidence you need to find and keep a job you enjoy. You will be assigned an iWork coach who will work closely with you to provide the personalised support you need to help you move into a job.
