Islington is due an inspection of our SEND offer. We will receive five days' notice of an inspection. If you work in education, health or social care, or work with families, children and young people aged 0 - 25 with special educational needs and or disabilities (SEND) then this inspection will involve you.

The inspection will evaluate how well we carry out our statutory duties for children and young people with SEND. It will ask three questions:

  • How effectively does the local area identify children and young people who have SEND?
  • How effectively does the local area assess and meet the needs of children and young people who have SEND?
  • How effectively does the local area improve outcomes for children and young people who have SEND?

It will include the local authority, clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), public health, NHS England for specialist services, early years' settings, schools and further education providers. Information will be gathered through meetings with parents, carers, children and young people, by visits to early years' settings, schools and colleges, and through discussions with staff who work with parents, carers, young people and children across education, health and social care. Inspectors will also review records held by providers and services and by the local authority.
