Enrichment in Islington Schools
In partnership with the Islington Community of Schools, local businesses and cultural partners, Islington has developed two major programmes to ensure all children and young people in the borough benefit from the outstanding opportunities on their doorstep.
Why is Enrichment important?
The Islington Fair Futures Commission (2018) called for more enrichment activity to support children and young people to develop ‘skills for life’.
Enrichment offers; like music, the arts, and careers activities; help children to develop social and emotional skills, such as communication, self-reliance and team working. These life skills support the wellbeing of children and young people and help them to become more resilient, think creatively and relate more positively to each other.
Music Education Islington, 100 Hours World of Work and a 11 by 11 were developed to meet this new council policy commitment.
11 by 11 is an extensive programme of free creative and cultural activities for local schools – from events and experiences like free concert tickets and backstage theatre tours, to school assembly talks on the creative industries.
11 by 11 is a commitment to make available 11 outstanding cultural experiences by Year 11 for all children and young people attending Islington schools.
We are committed to ensuring that all young people in Islington benefit from 100 hours’ experience of the world of work by the age of 16.
We're working with a range of employers and partners to offer a free programme of meaningful career-related activities suitable for both primary and secondary schools. They will help secondary schools meet the Gatsby Benchmarks and support the latest DfE statutory Careers Guidance.
Music Education Islington is the Music Education Hub for the London Borough of Islington.
Our vision is for all Islington children and young people to receive high quality music education and progression opportunities, regardless of their background.
